The story of this place
Rescue excavations in Stara Zagora in 1969 uncovered the remains of an early Neolithic house. A museum was built above the discovery to preserve the relationship between objects and their original setting. The building is interpreted as having two storeys, and the destructive fire helped preserve evidence of its contents. Ovens, hand mills and ceramic vessels reveal food preparation and storage, turning prehistory into a story about domestic work and everyday decisions. The title “Neolithic Dwellings” should not lead visitors to assume that every visible part represents a separate complete house. Archaeological remains and their reconstruction need to be distinguished carefully, particularly when digital interpretations are used to imagine the lost building.
What the evidence shows
- The house was discovered in 1969.
- Ovens, mills and ceramic household equipment survive.
Hypotheses and open questions
Its storeys and external appearance are archaeological reconstructions; the complete timber house does not survive.
Myths and local traditions
The sources consulted do not document a reliable local tradition. We do not invent legends to fill the gap.
