The story of this place

Kabile lies beside a bend in the Tundzha and the height of Zaychi Vrah. During the Hellenistic period the town was connected with Thracian rulers, commercial contacts and its own coinage. A military camp developed in Roman times, and late antique Kabile also became an episcopal centre. Exposed structures and the on-site museum allow these phases to be considered separately. The ancient town was destroyed in the late sixth century, while a smaller medieval settlement later occupied part of its ruins. No modern city covers the reserve, which facilitates archaeological investigation. This does not mean that the whole area has been excavated or that every visible building belongs to the same period.
