The story of this place

Alexandrovo Tomb was discovered in 2000 in the Roshavata Chuka mound by Georgi Kitov’s team. Built in the fourth century BC, it comprises a long passage, an antechamber and a circular chamber. Paintings show hunting, human figures, animals and details of weapons. They illuminate the visual culture of the Thracian aristocracy rather than literally recording every event. Different floor levels suggest more than one phase of use. The nearby museum centre presents a replica of the tomb together with regional archaeological material. Visitors explore the replica, created to reduce pressure on the original murals. The buried individual’s name remains unknown despite popular attempts to connect the monument with a particular ruler.
