The story of this place

The Golyama Kosmatka complex was discovered in 2004 by a team led by Georgi Kitov. Beyond its façade are chambers of different forms, including a circular domed room and a chamber hollowed from a massive granite block. Rich finds include a gold wreath, vessels and weapons. Several objects bear the name Seuthes, while the bronze portrait head and coins support an association with Seuthes III. Funerary use is linked to the beginning of the third century BC. Interpreting earlier functions as a temple, or identifying precise rituals performed there, requires more caution than describing the excavated objects. Attribution to the ruler is an argued scholarly interpretation rather than a written biography of the deceased.
