The story of this place

Iatrus at Krivina was established in the fourth century at a strategic position near the Yantra’s confluence with the Danube. Bulgarian–German investigations distinguish several construction periods and a later settlement among the ruins. Excavated structures include a gate, public and private buildings, and Early Christian churches. Pottery and transport amphorae provide evidence for supply systems and changes within the frontier community. Published research also describes early medieval occupation. The site is particularly useful for comparing a military establishment with later civilian use of the same ground.
