The story of this place

The medieval monastery near Voden is a separate archaeological site close to Malkoto Kale. Late twentieth-century investigations exposed the stone buildings of a religious complex. The museum’s research overview dates its life to the eleventh–thirteenth centuries. An older proposal associates it with Gregory of Sinai and his monastery in Paroria, but that identification is not securely established. This distinction matters: the existence of an excavated medieval monastery is evidence, while attribution to a particular spiritual figure is a separate hypothesis. Plan any visit as access to archaeological ruins, rather than to a functioning monastery with established reception for pilgrims.
