The story of this place

Tuida stands on a hill at the edge of Sliven. The fortification belonged to a late antique defensive network, and occupation continued into the Middle Ages. Its ancient name is attested by an excavated inscription dedicated to Zeus. Research exposed defensive structures and a Christian complex containing a basilica and a baptistery with mosaic decoration. Alterations show changing functions rather than an unchanged Roman fortress. The site is now interpreted through visitor routes and historical demonstrations. Craft and combat presentations are modern ways of explaining the past; masonry, inscriptions and excavated finds remain the evidence for this particular place. Views across Sliven help explain the strategic choice of the hill.
