The story of this place
Utroba lies at Tangardak Kaya above the Borovitsa hut area. Its shape and incoming sunlight underpin interpretation as a place for fertility rites. Rock-cut niches occur nearby. The tourist information centre presents the Mother Goddess hypothesis but reports no finds from the interior. Precise dating and reconstructions of ceremonies therefore require caution.
What the evidence shows
- The cave is a natural fissure with reported worked surfaces.
- Rock-cut niches are documented in the surrounding area.
Hypotheses and open questions
The Thracian attribution is interpretative; shape and sunlight alone do not establish a date, deity or precise ritual.
Myths and local traditions
The sources consulted do not document a reliable local tradition. We do not invent legends to fill the gap.
