What makes it special?

Pernik turns its industrial and medieval past into a distinctive city story: an underground mining museum, Krakra Fortress and the powerful masquerade traditions celebrated at Surva.

Coal transformed Pernik into a modern industrial city, while local memory reaches back to the medieval ruler Krakra. Today the contrast between heavy-industry heritage and living kuker traditions is its strongest cultural asset.
