What makes it special?

Targovishte grew from a major fair and market tradition. Its old quarter, historic school, regional museum and nearby Misionis site make a focused introduction to the eastern Danube plain.

The city's name reflects commerce, but its identity also includes mixed architectural traditions and the wooded hills immediately south. The annual fair remains a cultural reference point even as the modern centre changes.
