What makes it special?

Sofia combines the scale of a European capital with unusually direct contact between Roman archaeology, religious landmarks, socialist-era monuments, contemporary culture, parks and Vitosha Mountain.

The centre can be walked, but the city's full character lives across neighbourhoods: Oborishte's cultural institutions, the Women's Market, the mineral-water zone, Lozenets, the university district and the parks. Metro, trams and buses connect these layers.
