What makes it special?

Smolyan is not a compact old centre but a chain of mountain neighbourhoods along the Cherna valley, with a major planetarium, Rhodope history and forests and lakes close at hand.

The modern city united older settlements, so distances are longer than the map first suggests. Its strength lies in combining museums and everyday Rhodope life with quick access to trails, caves, observatories and mountain villages.

Choose one urban cluster at a time: the planetarium and centre, the regional museum, or the older quarters. Add Smolyan Lakes and Nevyastata only with enough daylight and suitable footwear.
